For Psychologists

Professional support to help us be the best we can be

CPD Events & Courses

We’re all busy, and sometimes CPD can be difficult to find, organise or arrange. We know this, but we also know how good great CPD can be. Find out more about EdPsychEd CPD events.

Professional Supervision

Professional supervision helps us to be the best that we can be, and supports us to continually to improve. See the network of Educational Psychology professional supervisors, and group supervision / workshop events.

CPD Events & Courses

We’ve loved organising CPD events that have brought together some of the best Psychologists and trainers from around the country. Given the demand for these, we are excited have launched a new site for online courses called EdPsychEd. Here, we are bringing together leading psychologists to provide a range of highly engaging courses which can improve the lives and outcomes for all children.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

After an amazing response to an EPNET post regarding EP practice around Emotionally Based School Avoidance, we are really pleased to have hosted a webinar that allowed us to share great practice, develop our understanding of EBSA, and learn how best to support the schools, families and children we work with.

The session covered:

We're so pleased that we can facilitate these timely and important discussions together with our colleagues, and thank you for the time and generosity of our EP colleagues in making this happen.

EBSA Horizons CPD Course

Following this event last year, we became even more passionate about EBSA, and wanted to create a CPD course for Educational Psychologists which would give us all the knowledge, skills and tools to affect positive change at the level of the child, school and home. As part of EdPsychEd, we had the pleasure of teaming up with Dr Jerricah Holder who has been passionately involved with the development of guidelines and training used by Educational Psychologists across the UK.

We hope you can join us, and use EBSA Horizons to improve the outcomes for children across your schools and local authority.

Selective Mutism CPD

Selective Mutism CPD (Webinars)

** This event has now closed for registrations. Please visit EdPsychEd for future events **

Maggie Johnson is a specialist Speech & Language Therapist who is widely regarded as being one of the UK’s leading experts in selective mutism.

With an average of two children in every primary school having selective mutism (i.e. selectively silent), and recognising how important early assessment and intervention is for the outcomes for these children, Educational Psychologists have an important role in supporting schools to identify and meet these needs. After all, left unsupported, selective mutism can have a significant impact upon a child’s social, academic, and emotional development, and lead to greater mental health difficulties within adolescence and adulthood.

The sessions will be delivered through 2 x 3 hour webinars. In conjunction with the resource materials below, we will develop our:

  • Psychological understanding of selective mutism;

  • Knowledge of tools to assess selective mutism;

  • Use of interventions for school aged children.

On this course, we will explore the nature and causes of selective mutism, differential diagnosis, theoretical frameworks and evidence-based intervention strategies. These will leave us with the skills and confidence in how to best support schools, families and children.

The workshops will be delivered through 2 x 3 hour interactive webinars.

The resource manual for this course is the Speechmark publication ‘The Selective Mutism Resource Manual’ second edition (2016) which participants are highly encouraged to purchase prior to the course. We have a 20% discount code (BSE20) which can be used at the Routledge website. Alternatively click here to purchase through Amazon.

Dynamic Assessment CPD

Dynamic Assessment CPD (Webinars)

** This event has now closed for registrations. Please visit EdPsychEd for future events **

Dr Jane Yeomans is a highly experienced and skilled Dynamic Assessment (DA) trainer and practitioner. In these workshops, she will lead us through a refresher on DA before taking us a step further and breathing new life into our DA practice to achieve the most out of this.

Improving our DA skills feels incredibly timely, especially given many concerns over the accuracy and legitimacy of standardised assessments when children return to school following such a long time away from education.

These workshops will develop our DA skills, leaving us confident in using DA in practice and knowing how to get the most from DA reporting. These workshops include:

• A refresher of the core principles of DA;

• Test selection and use to expand our repertoire of tools;

• How to master mediation and get the most out of our DA sessions with children (including live modelling);

• Use of commercially produced materials dynamically; and

• Best practice in recording, reporting and feeding back DA to achieve the best outcomes through practical strategies to enhance children’s rate of learning.

The workshops will be delivered through 2 x 3 hour interactive webinars, with a range of accompanying materials being supplied electronically to support our use of Dynamic Assessment in practice. Sessions will be recorded and individually available afterwards to enable additional learning and reflection.

Dr Jane Yeomans is also offering the opportunity to hold small group supervision sessions at a later date for anyone that would like to follow up and further develop their use of DA in practice. This will be a really helpful chance to reflect on how our new skills have been applied, and to gain even more practical tips and ideas.

Dr Jenny Dutton and Dr Jane Yeomans have written insightful blogs on their experiences and aspirations for Dynamic Assessment here.

What CPD do you want next?

We have become really quite passionate about finding and facilitating quality CPD for ourselves and our EP colleagues over the last year.

While there’s endless opportunities, we have found that making the most useful and practical CPD courses takes well over a year to produce. We don’t cut corners, but rather invest this time to create a resource which we’ve found EPs come back to time and time again (just like a good book!).

So, the question is…

what CPD do you want next?
